Victoria Keenan - Company Founder and Director.

If you're interested in the services that are offered by Birth Zone, you may well be interested in its founder and how the concept evolved.

It took my husband and me about 2 years to conceive our first child.  That time was full of valuable lessons and lots of research.  I had researched Doulas and found Suzanne Howlett of Divinely Nurtured (in the UK) before I was pregnant and I am so glad that I did because she was worth her weight in gold.  Her passion and trust in birth, along with the education that we received from her, enabled us to have a positive, empowering and safe birth experience.

I took my Doula training when I was pregnant with my first daughter on her recommendation and, in doing so, knew I was on the right path.  I joined Doula UK and was the Regional Representative for my area for 2 years, working at connecting the Doula community and creating a supportive infrastructure.  After having reflexology during both pregnancies and seeing the relief it can offer, I also trained as a reflexologist while I was pregnant with my second child and I really enjoy seeing people getting results from the treatments I provide.

My husband and I practised hypnobirthing to prepare for the births and I felt it had benefitted us so much that I wanted to share that knowledge with others, so I trained as a practitioner.  Sharing knowledge with parents and building their confidence is a real joy for me and is something that I always wish to continue.  I like to create an open and honest space that values those who carry and birth the next generation, and all they do for our communities and wider society, and that also appreciates the important role that the birth partner can hold.

I first taught the Mongan Method of HypnoBirthing® in Essex and Cambridgeshire, UK, before spending 5 years teaching The Wise Hippo program in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  In seeking ways to work effectively in a new country I realised that I wanted to offer something that appealed to the professional working families of Dubai and to provide the participants with thoughtful holistic information, that expands from the basic medical preparation model.  So after returning from the 'Eat, Pray, Doula' workshop retreat with film-maker and www.imbci.org activist Deborah Bonaro-Pascali and CNN Hero of the Year 2011, Robin Lim, in Indonesia, my energy and enthusiasm for birth work was renewed.  Our family returned to Cambridgeshire in April 2018 and I am excited to bring all that I have learned and experienced to the Fens and surrounding areas!

Birth Zone courses and events provide parents with the foundations from which to build their skills and confidence by highlighting up to date research, exploring how to weigh up and manage individual risk factors, how to effectively work with medical care providers, as well as sign-posting to the broad range of support and services that are available in the area, so more new families can access the network local to them.

So please join us, and allow yourself the time and space to prepare physically, mentally and emotionally for the most powerful journey you will ever experience.

Kindest Regards,

Victoria Keenan
