Conscious Conception and Fertility Awareness
I decided to write a Blog on the topic of conscious conception and fertility awareness after reminiscing over the charts that I compiled when trying to conceive my first daughter Ofelia in 2006/07. I am now able to look back with such fondness and pride at, what was at times, an emotionally draining journey. I vacillated between enthusiasm and powerlessness, devastation and empowerment, on a monthly basis. As a young woman, I knew very little about my body, how it worked and

Breech Babies
Have you been told that your baby is in a breech position? I have noticed a pattern of women being told this before they are 30 weeks, (when the baby still has plenty of time to turn) and without sign posting families to information which can help them optimise their maternity care. It is also important to remember that fear leads to tension in the body and that tension could restrict the baby's ability to change position. By releasing these fears we can relax our bodies to

So when the opportunity arose for me to sample what’s on offer for Mummies at SensAsia Urban Spas, I of course took this responsibility very seriously! The Yummy Mummy Club is represented in our gift bags, so I wanted to ensure that their service was top notch (I know, it was indeed selfless of me to take one for the team….you’re welcome). The specialist SensMama Menu has

What's all this about Diaper-Free babies?
As is Birth Zone's usual way of looking at things, if you strip away all of the modern/social/cultural teachings and expectations, things make much more sense.
Babies are infant mammals. Infant mammals are very smart and have great survival instincts. One of the instincts that most mammals are born with is not to soil themselves.
Elimination Communication works from the premise that babies do not WANT to soil themselves and that we actually TEACH babies to use nappies.

Can dates affect your pregnancy?
As a Woman, a Mother and a Doula, I am always fascinated to learn more about the subtle nuances of our female bodies and the process of birth. I had read about the effects of date consumption when I was pregnant, but at that time I was not familiar with the fruit and had assumed that I would not like it. I am sure this stemmed from childhood and I had simply not revisited it in adulthood. Moving to the Middle East has done a wonderful job of opening me up to new experiences.
